Yes. PERGOLUX motorised awnings are designed for easy DIY installation and are suitable for most Australian homes.
With 2–3 adults to help lift the awning into position, most installations can be completed by following our step-by-step installation guide, video tutorials and the PERGOLUX app.
If you'd rather leave it to the professionals, we can also connect you with trusted installation partners in selected areas across Australia.
Most PERGOLUX awnings can be installed in around 1–2 hours, depending on the wall type and the size of the awning.
The installation process includes:
- Measuring and marking the mounting position
- Installing the wall brackets
- Lifting and securing the awning cassette
- Connecting the power supply
- Testing the motor and remote control
With the right preparation and a couple of helpers, installation is quick and straightforward.
You won't need any specialised trade equipment to install your PERGOLUX awning.
For most Australian homes, you'll need:
- 2 sturdy step ladders
- Power drill (hammer drill for concrete or brick walls)
- Masonry drill bits (14 mm or 16 mm, depending on your wall type)
- Socket wrench or ratchet set
- 6 mm Allen key
- Spirit level
- Tape measure
- Pencil or marker
- Caulking gun (for chemical anchor resin and exterior-grade silicone, where required)
- Wall scanner (recommended to locate electrical cables and water pipes before drilling)
Always use the correct wall fixings for your wall type and follow the installation instructions carefully.
PERGOLUX retractable awnings are designed to be installed on structurally sound walls such as:
- Concrete
- Solid brick
- Reinforced masonry
If your home has rendered walls, weatherboard, Hebel, cavity brick or other lightweight construction materials, we recommend consulting a qualified installer to ensure the correct mounting method is used.
Your PERGOLUX Awning includes the heavy-duty mounting brackets, but you'll need to purchase the correct wall anchors for your home.
Because Australian homes are built using a range of materials—including concrete, brick veneer, double brick, cavity brick, Hebel and timber frame construction—the required wall fixings vary depending on the mounting surface.
You can purchase the recommended fixings from your preferred hardware or building supplies store.
Awnings under 5 m wide: 2 mounting brackets and 8 wall anchors
Awnings 5 m wide and above: 3 mounting brackets and 12 wall anchors
The correct wall fixing depends on the construction of your home.
Concrete: M12 × 120 mm expansion bolt
Solid or double brick: M12 × 160 mm threaded rod with chemical anchor resin
Sand-lime brick: M12 × 160 mm threaded rod with chemical anchor resin
Hollow or cavity brick: M12 × 160 mm threaded rod with injection sleeve and chemical anchor resin
Timber frame: 12 × 120 mm heavy-duty structural timber screws
Externally insulated walls: M12 stand-off anchor with chemical anchor resin
Concrete ceiling or soffit: M12 × 110 mm expansion bolt or threaded rod with chemical anchor resin
Hebel® or other aerated concrete: We recommend consulting a structural engineer or qualified installer before installation.
Yes. If your home has external insulation, your installer will use specialised stand-off fixings designed for insulated walls. These anchors pass through the insulation and are secured into the solid wall behind it, so the awning is supported by the structure of your home—not the insulation itself. This prevents the insulation from being crushed or damaged when installed correctly.
Yes. Hollow brick walls require specialised fixings rather than standard masonry bolts. Depending on your wall construction, your installer will use the appropriate anchoring system to ensure a secure installation without damaging the brickwork.
Three simple steps can save you a lot of hassle. First, look for the obvious signs: electrical cables and plumbing pipes usually run straight up and down, or across from power points, light switches, taps and drains. Second, check your home's plans if you have them. Third, use a wall scanner (easy to buy or hire from most hardware stores) to check where you plan to drill. Spending five minutes checking now can save you from a costly mistake later.
For the best clearance and shade, we recommend installing your awning around 2.6–3.0m above ground level. This provides plenty of headroom while allowing the awning to extend at the correct angle. Your installer will position it to suit your home and ensure doors and windows can still open freely.
Yes. PERGOLUX awnings can be installed on either a wall or a ceiling, provided the mounting surface is structurally sound. Concrete, solid brick and structural timber are all suitable when installed with the correct fixings. Your installer will determine the best mounting option for your home.
Yes. The pitch can be adjusted both during installation and afterwards. This lets you fine-tune the amount of shade, improve water runoff during light rain, or adapt the angle as the sun changes throughout the year.
No. PERGOLUX awnings are plug-and-play and come with a long power cable that plugs straight into a standard outdoor power point. No hardwiring is required for a typical installation.
Yes. PERGOLUX awnings are engineered for outdoor use and are weather protected. We do recommend plugging the awning into a weatherproof outdoor power point, just as you would with any outdoor appliance.
No worries. Every PERGOLUX awning includes a manual crank, so you can still open or close it if there's a power outage.
Not if it's installed properly. The cable can be routed neatly along brickwork or hidden inside slim, paintable cable conduit, making it blend in with your home.
See a real example here:
No. The full-cassette design completely encloses the fabric and arms when retracted, protecting them from dirt, rain and the elements. Simply close it when you're finished, and it's ready whenever you need it again.
PERGOLUX awnings are tested to Wind Resistance Class 2, making them suitable for normal residential wind conditions.
If strong winds, storms or severe weather are forecast, we recommend retracting your awning to protect both the fabric and the frame.
For added peace of mind, you can also install an optional PERGOLUX wind sensor that automatically retracts the awning when wind speeds become too high.
Yes. The premium 280 g/m² AuroWeave™ polyester fabric features a durable PU coating that repels light rain, so you can continue enjoying your outdoor area during passing showers.
During heavy rain or storms, always retract the awning to prevent water from pooling on the fabric.
No. When retracted, the fabric and arms are fully enclosed inside the aluminium cassette, helping keep everything secure and quiet.
PERGOLUX AuroWeave™ fabric is specifically engineered to resist mould. The PU-treated surface is water-repellent yet breathable, which prevents moisture from being trapped between layers when the fabric is rolled up. The non-stick surface finish stops pollen and organic matter from embedding in the fibres — the main food source for mould — meaning a simple rinse with a garden hose keeps the fabric clean. The full-cassette enclosure adds a further layer of protection by shielding the rolled fabric from damp conditions all winter.
Built for Australia's harsh climate, PERGOLUX AuroWeave™ awning fabric is engineered to retain its colour and performance for years of outdoor use. Tested under 1,000 hours of Xenon-Arc UV exposure, it delivers Level 4 colour fastness, helping prevent fading even after prolonged exposure to the Australian sun. Unlike standard retractable awnings, the full-cassette design completely encloses the fabric when retracted, protecting it from UV rays, rain and dirt. The result is a motorised awning that stays looking newer for longer, with consistent colour and lasting durability.
Think about the area you'd like to shade, not just the wall you're mounting it to. We generally recommend choosing an awning that extends slightly beyond your main outdoor seating area, giving you comfortable shade throughout the day as the sun moves.
Choose a width that fits comfortably within your balcony, leaving a little clearance at each end. Your awning should also extend without projecting beyond the balcony edge.
PERGOLUX awnings are built to last and backed by our warranty:
10-year warranty on the structural frame and mounting brackets
5-year warranty on the motor and moving components and on the fabric
2-year warranty on controls, electronics and accessories
PERGOLUX awnings are designed to be repairable, not replaced.
The motor can be replaced without replacing the entire awning. In the meantime, you can still operate the awning manually using the supplied hand crank.
In most cases, no. Installing a retractable awning on a freestanding home generally doesn't require council approval.
However, requirements can vary depending on your local council and property type. If you live in a heritage-listed home, townhouse, apartment or strata property, we recommend checking with your local council or strata manager before installation.
You'll generally need your landlord's written permission before installing a permanent awning, as it involves fixing the brackets to the building. If you're unsure, check your lease agreement or speak with your property manager first.
